About the Artist

I am an artist now and forever!

"between 'reality' on the one hand, and the point where the mind strikes reality, there's a middle zone,
a rainbow edge where beauty comes into being, where two very different surfaces mingle and blur
to provide what life does not: and this is the space where all art exists and all magic"
Donna Tartt

The Goldfinch

This is my very favorite quote about art.  It really expresses how I feel about art in general.  I find it absolutely magical that an artist can take a one dimensional flat surface and give it depth, and form, light and shadow and create something that becomes three dimensional to the human eye.

I currently live with my husband in Aurora, Colorado.  My training in Fine Art came late in life learning the art of oil painting under some of the finest art instructors at the New Mexico Art League in Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as many great instructors around the country.  I consider my art a cross between realism and impressionism.  I so love the tightness of realism that seems to be innate in me and yet also yearn for those beautiful loose strokes of impressionism.  And most of all, the light. The light most often says it all in the painting, drawing the viewer right in to the core of the subject and then spinning you around the rest of the canvas.

A little more about me!

First of all writing my bio makes me queasy!  I guess I wonder who really wants to know very much about me, but here goes!

Art has always been a part of my life, something that I am compelled to do.  It has always been a part of who I am just

as a writer must write, a sculptor who must feel the clay under their fingertips, a chef must find the right ingredients to satisfy the most discerning palate.  Art is who I am.  I always was drawing as a child, but abandoned it when an art teacher in 9th grade  gave me a D because I wasn’t good at all things “art”.  (Please take note teachers).  I felt defeated and untalented.  Still I  found time to draw off and on and felt somewhat satisfied with what I had accomplished.  So when later in my life an opportunity came along for me to get back into artistic endeavors, I jumped at the chance.  I quickly fell in love with oil painting and learned under some excellent artists at the New Mexico Art League in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I of course assumed that my work was some of the best and would be lauded as one of the best artists around….but not so fast….I am a very good artist, but not the greatest and my mature mind can handle that small disappointment.  Because what matters most to me right now is being able to paint and paint and paint.  I am happy with just that and improvement continues to happen.

If you have been to my website before, you probably have noticed how inactive I have been with it.  My main obstacle was moving in mid 2019 and I faced a hard adjustment.  I have continued to paint the whole time, but after deciding to “bloom where I am planted”, I have decided to embrace the website or abandon it.  Nothing like a challenge!

So, I have decided to stick with it and I hope you enjoy viewing what I love to do every day.
